He Sent His Son

Ephesians 2:4-5 - But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Love is a powerful word - a word that can sometimes be thrown around and have no real meaning to the other person receiving it. But there is One who knows what true love means and offers that to those who choose to believe and follow Him.

Like John 3:16 explains, God the Father loved us so much that He sent His Only Son to die on a cross, die a gruelling death, so that forgiveness and eternal life could be ours.

We are no longer condemned (Romans 8:1) when we accept, believe and confess. We are no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:20), and sin no longer rules over us (Romans 6:14). God, who is (notice that it is present tense) rich in His mercy, withholding punishment on us and pouring it out upon His Son, showed His great love for us by making us alive in Christ through the death and resurrection.

As we reflect on the love of God, here is a wee hymn to draw your heart closer in a song of praise:

How deep the Father’s love for us,

How vast beyond all measure,

That He should give His only Son

To make a wretch His treasure.

How great the pain of searing loss –

The Father turns His face away,

As wounds which mar the Chosen One

Bring many sons to glory.
