A Deeper Prayer Life

As Christians, we pray every day. But recently, I have been convicted to ask myself the question, “How can I have a deeper prayer life with God?”

.

Every week at church, God has given my pastor various messages that pierce the soul and have me craving more and more of knowing God, his character and how much He loves His people.

.

Every week, I have new questions about what to pray for, how to pray ‘better’ and why I should be praying.

.

What should I be praying for? I love the ACTS model for prayer. It is NOT a acronym that I follow for every prayer, by all means, however when I am stuck for words, when my heart is thirsty but weak, I begin by thanking God for who He is, praising Him for saving my soul and worship Him for who He is (also known as adoration).

.

I then confess my sins before God, knowing that I have sinned against the holiest of Holies - actions, thoughts, things I have said. God forgives and restores our fellowship with Him.

.

I once again thank God for what he has done in my life - His Son, for protecting my family, for providing for my every need and for what He has planned for my future. Some days, thanking God for the future is harder than it is to write this but the Bible says, “Your ways are better than my ways”.

.

I finish off by praying for my needs and the needs of others. Praying for knowledge and wisdom. Praying for physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Praying for God’s healing hand on others. Pray for other brothers and sisters. And to pray for the unsaved. "God will supply your every need".

.

The more I pray in this way, the more the Holy Spirit leads my prayers and fills my mouth with words that glorify and honour God.

.

I pray that this month’s prayer and reading plan is a real blessing for you, and that God will put the desire in your heart to have a deeper prayer life.
