12 Days of Christmas: ONE true God

We often sing at Christmas time about the birth of Jesus, and how majestic, wonderful, powerful He is and how God sent His son for us. The great Jehovah.

I’ve been reading recently on how God is THE one true God, and our God. How we are privileged just to sit down and speak to Him in prayer; how amazing it feels to worship HIM!

I wanted to share a few thoughts today on OUR God: The ONE true God - there is no one like Him; He is the first and the last; and, and, He alone can save us.

Over the past year, through church, bible study and youth meetings, my eyes have been opened to see that God is nothing like anyone I have ever known or met. We, as humans, are born with a sinful nature, so therefore we are not perfect (Psalm 51:5). But don’t let that discourage you. As a born again Christian, we are new creatures in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). As we follow God all our days, we see that His ways are perfect (2 Samuel 22:31). God has prepared a path for us for us to walk (Ephesians 2:10), for us to walk in the will of God (Romans 12:2) and to know His will, we are to faithfully follow God and worship Him as the ONE TRUE GOD.

You will never find a closer friend than God because He is perfect and His will is perfect.

God was there before the earth was formed, and He knows the plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). Without going deep into how God was created, we know from the Scriptures that He is the “Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End” (Revelation 22:13).

We know that God is the one true God throughout Scripture because there are at least 100 bible verses to state that He is God, the true God, the one Lord, one Mediator. I believe every verse in the Bible, as do all born again Christians, because all scripture was written through the help of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16-17); every word comes from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4) and that every word from the Bible is given to us, not to re-word and misinterpret, but for us to be taught and to learn.

The world was created by God, in the beginning, and for God’s pleasure (Colossians 1:16), and we are to glorify God while we are His earth, as followers of the one true God (Romans 15:6). When God has fulfilled His plan, He will come with the clouds (Revelation 1:7), descending from Heaven, and every knee will bow before Him (Philippians 2:10-11). He will be the Last, because He will call His children to Heaven with Him on that great day.

We know that there is none like Christ because He is the Holy of Holies, the One true God. He is the creator of the Heavens and the Earth. And, He sent His son, Jesus, as a baby, so that we could have eternal life (John 3:16). Even Herod was afraid and instructed that all babies should be killed (Matthew 2:16) as the three wise men described baby Jesus as “King of the Jews”.

We think of the birth of Jesus at Christmas, but what we sometimes forget at Christmas is also the life of Jesus. He studied in the Temple as a child (Luke 2:46). He was baptised by His cousin, John the Baptist (Matthew 3:13-17). He performed several miracles, which are mentioned throughout the gospels, but He always preached the Gospel - no one can come to the Father, God, except through Jesus (John 14:6); that we are to believe and be baptised (Mark 16:16); that anyone can believe through Him (Luke 19:10 and John 10:9).

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Everlasting life, with God in Heaven. Those who believe in God will go to be with Him either when they die, or when Christ returns, in the last day. But we need to believe in Him, trust Him, worship Him, know Him and see Him as the one true God.
